Running is a great form of exercise – its so easily accessible and not only gives you a great aerobic workout, strengthening your heart and lungs – but can also strengthen your legs, bottom, stomach and upper body. It does not come without risk of injury unfortunately – the constant jarring of the body puts strain on the lower back and other joints and injuries to the iliotibial band, hamstrings, knees, ankles, piriformis, lower back etc are very common, but can be prevented. This short warm up is aimed to get your joints moving and to start firing up the muscles that you will use most during your run, and is great to use before an early morning run, or an evening run, after you have been sitting at your desk all day.
