hi - thank you for these - very useful. I found it really hard to lift into the plank in this class. Should I repeat this class until I can do it, and are there other classes you would recommend to strenghthen my arms and core to help me get there? I also find my neck hurts pretty quickly when I do chest raises.

Hi Joanna
Thanks for your comment.
From what you are saying I get the feeling you should repeat this class and in general, all the Pre-Pilates and Beginners Course classes until you feel you have the strength, flexibility and understanding to them easily without strain. This would be the time to move on to the general Basic level classes and progress gradually from there.

hi, this class was great, but a lot more difficult physically then the previous pre-pilates classes. I couldnt do some of the exercises with full control as i did in other classes, I strated shaking and feeling strain on my joints. should I try to just do the lesson again and again untill I improve? or should I try something else to strengthen my weak muscles (after 3 births and no workout for years...)?
Im taking the beginners course and Im not sure whether to move on to the next lesson in week 3 or not...
thanks!

Hi Shiran. I am glad you liked the class. It is indeed much more demanding than the other 2 Pre-Pilates classes as the other ones work on release and this one works on stability and strength. It is "normal" that you cannot do some of the exercises properly, so yes- please keep trying every couple of days until you develop the strength to do them well. If any exercise gives you pain or strain then please avoid it for now and try again in the future. If your 3rd birth was less than 6 months ago then you may benefit from taking the Post Natal Classes https://www.yoopod.com/specialised-classes/bumps-and-mums and as for the Beginners Course - if you chose to continue with this programme then please progress gradually - repeating each class a number of times until you can do it really well before progressing to the next class. I hope this helps. Amit

Loving the classes so far, I used to practice Pilates (as beginner) years ago, now I want to start again after two children (2 yo and 3 mo).
I feel a bit at loss sometimes because you skip too fast over basic things like neutral position, proprer breathing, hips-spine-shoulders alignment. Maybe a class "zero" would be useful. Do you think it would be better to repeat this intro classes a few times befor starting the post partum course?

Thanks for your comment Martina. I am glad to hear you are enjoying the classes and hope you feel they are helping you feel better in your body after the pregnancies. Since your baby is just 3 mo, I would recommend going through the Post Natal Classes first (6-weeks-postnatal and then the 12 weeks-postnatal). When you have completed those and feel ready to move on, take the Complete Beginner course which will give you all the detailed info you say above that you are looking for. https://www.yoopod.com/programs/complete-beginner-pilates-program
I hope this helps. Amit

Really interesting. Just trying these classes having done 1.5 years of yoga. Howeer, I'd be interested to understand what someone more expert than me thinks pilates is giving that yoga doesn't. I'm asking in the most positive way. Looking for a reason to continue both as I feel the benefits.

Amit - yoopod .

Hi Andrew. Thanks for your question. I believe the main aspects you will find you get more in the Pilates classes than in the Yoga classes on yoopod (and in general) are:
1. Pilates classes "break things down" for you, giving you a better understanding (awareness) of HOW to do the different movements and how to identify you are doing things "correctly"
2. Pilates has more emphasis on core strength and
3. Pilates has more emphasis on "spinal articulation" - moving your spine sequentially rather than in big "chunks"
I think the combination of Pilates and Yoga is wonderful and that if you will continue practising Pilates you will feel the improvement in your Yoga practice before long :)
Best, Amit

Also the Pilates emphasis on thoracic breathing as opposed to much of the abdominal breathing work in yoga massively increases awareness and effectiveness of breath and core work particularly when using Uddiyana and Moola Bandhas (diaphragm and pelvic floor). The pilates focus on neutral spinal placement is also incredibly beneficial for any yogi who enjoys good flexibility but perhaps doesnt have as much muscular strength as they would like, especially when regularly moving through Surya Namaskar (sun salutations) from Chaturanga Dandasana (moving plank) to Ardo Mukha Svanasana (downward facing dog). I am a 57 year old yoga teacher and pilates facilitates my yoga practice - its the perfect combo from my perspective.

Don't underestimate the effectiveness of these shorter classes, they are still a great workout! I can definitely see improvements in my form in subsequent longer classes after refreshing the underpinning techniques.

Just finished a set of 4 nights and woke this afternoon stiff, achy and sore. So sign up for yoopod and found this wonderful class. Exactly what I needed to unwind and relax. Thanks Amit, will definitely search for 1 and 2.

Feeling much more awake and clear headed after completed all 3 of the sessions in this group. No 3 is definitely a challenge... but am looking forward to building up my strength and stamina so I can progress on.

First Pilates class ever, and I'm already hooked. I can't tell you how relaxed I feel after those 3 pre Pilates lessons. I moved muscles I didn't know I had! What a great teacher Amit is.

Great class. My husband joined me for this today, it was such fun having a class together in our very own living room. Plus, it was his first Pilates experience (he normally takes Yoga classes) and he loved it!

Felt a bit tired today so decided to do an easier class. it was actually really good to get back to basics and take the time to re-work on familiar exercises. thank you!
