My first class online. Loved the dvd with AMIT and Nikki. I am going to try the intermediate 9 week programme. This was a super start, so many thanks, your instruction is so good and clear. I am at a loss, however, to understand how it is possible to almost stop at the top of rolling like a ball. I tried your exercise with Camilla , how can she do that.

Looking forward to next session.

Amit - yoopod .

Hi Maralyn
Thanks for your lovely comment. I am really glad to hear you loved the DVD :)
As a next step from the DVD you might want to consider taking the Basic Level Pilates Programme as it will serve as a good bridge between the DVD classes and the general level classes. It will also be a softer intro to the other teachers which can feel very different and somewhat confusing at first...
As for Rolling Like a Ball... like anything else in Pilates, it is all about practice, practice and more practice... ;)
Stay well!

Every time I do this class I get a little more out of it - yup regularity definitely pays off - these classes could be my lockdown lifesaver! I really like how clearly you explain the moves so I dont have to keep checking the screen. Thanks again

That is really lovely of you to say Kate :) Thank you! No doubt for me that Pilates is keeping me sane and strong during these challenging times!!

Great Class Amit, Thank you!
Now I'm ready for the day

Rachel M

I have been told I have terribly weak glut and core muscles and suffer with a very painful back. Have been doing this class daily for a week now and today I did it with no painkillers and no pain! Amazed, thank you

Amit - yoopod .

Well done Rachel!! I commend you for taking charge of your own body, and for committing to the process! Repeating the same class over and over is a great idea as you get better and better at doing the moves without having to worry about learning new exercises/skills every day. Amazing!!
Any questions or if you need any help just drop me a line.
Warm wishes
Amit

Rachel M

Please can I ask a question? When asked squeeze/engage abdominals and or core, do you also squeeze the glut muscles or is it just the pelvic floor and abs? Thanks so much

Amit - yoopod .

Hi Rachel. Thanks for your question. The answer is not exactly yes/no... it depends on the movement and sometimes even depends on the person...
You can learn about it more in detail by following these 2 clips-

If there is a specific exercise that you are not sure about, you should be able to find them in our exercise library. Please note that there is a Search function at the top (left) so you don't have to scroll through all the exercises... https://www.yoopod.com/resources/exercises-and-variations
Also, you are welcome to drop me an email if you have a specific question about a specific exercise. My email is below.
Hope this helps.

Clear instructions, time went quickly

Ian V

Really good class and great explanations - thank you!

Thank you again!

My first delve into one of your whole body workouts at intermediate level and I really enjoyed it. I love the basic classes that I've been doing but I felt that it was time to push a little harder and give myself a bit more of a challenge. I love the flow of this class which I feel really comfortable with and that you push a little harder to increase the stretches - I love stretching! Thank you so much Amit - you are a great teacher :-) xcx

Amit - yoopod .

Thank you for your lovely comments Catherine! :) I am very happy to hear you enjoyed the challenge in this class and felt comfortable with it! This shows you have done the prep work well and are ready to progress :) Amazing!! xAmit

I am so pleased to have just done my first intermediate class and although I can’t always move at the same pace I did manage to do everything thanks to Amits excellent instruction. When doing roll-ups should I be squeezing my inner thighs together and does it make any difference if the toes are pointed up or out?

Amit - yoopod .

Well done Jo!! I have no doubt that if you'll repeat this same class a few more times you'll get on top of the pace as well!! :)
Roll Ups- yes, please keep the legs together- focus on feeling the heels and backs on inner thighs squeezing together in particular if you can. Please keep the feet pointed the whole time at first and when you feel that you have "mastered" the exercise start flexing the toes up when you roll up and point the toes away when you roll down.
Hope this helps

Will do, thank you.

Good class!

Marija V

Hi Amit,

Can you tell me please what is the biggest difference when doing lift abdominal exercises with wide elbow or with narrow elbow ? Thank you!!!

Amit - yoopod .

Hi Marija
Did you mean the Chest Lift exercise?
Amit

Marija V

Hi Amit, Yes Chest Lift.

Amit - yoopod .

Hi Marija
In principle there isn't much difference between wide and narrow elbows... it should not really affect the movement or change how it works on the trunk muscles. Saying that, my experience is that with narrow elbows people might tend to "pull on their necks" more and shrug the shoulders up and so I would favor the wider elbow position. (accompanied by clear instructions/cues to avoid the above...). I think about it as "elbows at the edge of your peripheral vision".
Hope this helps

Kavita R

Hi Amit,
I just wonder, the last exercise (cat stretch with straight legs) is similar as plank but with round back. Can you explain me why back need to be round? Thanks

Amit - yoopod .

Hi Marija
Thanks for your question. The back does not "have" to be round... but I find that this version of the plank is very effective as it helps people "feel" or "understand" better how to hold the weight of the body up-lifted. I find that when the back is straight people tend to sink more between the shoulder blades and/or at the lower back.
I hope this helps
Amit
